The Devil’s Notebook is a collection of 41 essays by the founder of The Church of Satan, Anton LaVey, featuring wisdom, humor, and dark observations on nonconformity, occult faddism, erotic politics, the “Goodguy badge,” demoralization, the construction of artificial human companions, and other insights into humankind’s limitless capacity for self-deceit and self-denial. LaVey also advocates for creation of “total environments” — places of magical evocation, where the enlightened may escape the deleterious effects of contemporary existence.
